An interesting addition to Golf Channel’s Tuesday primetime lineup begins October 16 with the new original series, Our Longest Drive. The six-part series follows three friends from Chicago as they travel from their hometown to the Arctic Circle in honor of their deceased friend.
Their journey covers more than 5,500 miles across seven U.S. states, two Canadian provinces and two Canadian territories in an RV. Their mission is to honor their fallen friend through the game they love, despite the hardships these senior citizens face while travelling together in an RV.
Vic Zast is a member at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, IL, where this foursome of friends played golf together for more than 20 years. Vic pitched the idea for the trip to his friends so they could honor their friend Mike Allen and play golf with him one more time. “It was much more than just a trip or an adventure. It was a way for us to connect with the game we love and with each other,” Vic said.
Dan Johnson is preoccupied with fear and worry, leading to many difficult situations while traveling. The third member of the group is Jim Thompson, a man who faces his own personal challenges along the way and, with the help of his friends, comes to grips with his own fears. “It’s not exactly your all-adventure team going to the Arctic Circle, but there we were anyway,” said Jim.
The final member of the foursome is the deceased, Mike Allen. The show honors Mike’s memory with interviews with friends and relatives who share remembrances about the way Mike lived his life and how he struggled to cope with divorce, depression and diabetes.
Our Longest Drive premieres Tuesday, October 16 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Golf Channel.
