Former NHL Player Now Caddie For Ernie Els at Augusta

Drafted 13th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, Dan Quinn played in the National Hockey League for 14 seasons. He scored a career high 40 goals in 1987–88 while a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After the NHL, Dan Quinn embarked on a career in golf and was one of the top players on the Celebrity Tour. He won 20 Celebrity Players Tour titles, proving himself to be one of the top players in Celebrity Tour history.

This week, Quinn is busy in Augusta with his new job as a caddie for Ernie Els. Hard as it might be for some to believe, given his previous status as a professional athlete, Quinn aspires to be a full-time caddie. He has looped for Els seven times in recent months, splitting time with the South African’s longtime caddie, Ricci Roberts. The two each will work 13 tournaments for Els this season, splitting all earnings equally, and presumably after the season a decision will be made on who will carry the bag permanently.

“I’d definitely keep going,” Quinn said, cutting himself off before sounding as if he were politicking.

Why wouldn’t he want to be at Els’ side at this point? He’s working for one of the hottest golfers in the world, with the Big Easy experiencing a career resurgence with two PGA Tour victories in Florida in the last month.
