Patriot Golf Day 2011

PATRIOT_GOLF_DAYThis Labor Day weekend, help support the Folds of Honor Foundation, by participating in Patriot Golf Day at a golf facility near you. The Folds of Honor Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our great nation.

From September 2-5, golfers across the country will be asked to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to help fund Folds of Honor scholarships. The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association.

The inaugural Patriot Golf Day in 2007 was started by Major Dan Rooney, Founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, F-16 Pilot, PGA Professional, and USGA member. On Labor Day 2007 Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees. His request resulted in donations of more than $1.1 million from more than 3,200 golf facilities. In the last four years, golfers nationwide have been instrumental in raising more than $5.3 million through Patriot Golf Day events resulting in 2,000+ recipients in all 50 states and 41 PGA sections.

Golf Club Manufacturer Honors American Patriots

SMT GOLFSMT Golf has made its name as manfacturer of the longest clubs on any tour. Now they’re transitioning their distance on the course to supporting an even larger cause.

For a limited time, SMT Golf is offering its Durometer Series wedges with a portion of the proceeds going to the Folds of Honor Foundation that provides scholarships to children and spouses of military personnel killed or disabled in the service of the country. The SMT Golf Patriotic Wedge, which will be available until May 3, features an American flag engraved on it and comes with a red, white and blue Golf Pride Patriot grip.

“We’re trying to give back as much as we can,” SMT Golf owner Mike Tait said. “We send golf balls, candy and magazines over (to military personnel) and we’re involved with Toys for Tots. We’re always trying to give back.”

The Durometer Series wedges, which have been used by Nationwide Tour players, come in six different lofts. The SMT Golf Patriotic Wedge sells for $99. A line or two lines of custom engraving are available as well, at $12 and $19 respectively.

SMT also has a golf outings company that is planning similar promotions to raise money to fight breast cancer and prostate cancer.
