A long drive is a quick way to shorten a golf course and allow you to hit more short irons into the green. Most golfers aren’t born with Dustin Johnson’s long drive distance, so we need to build our ability to hit the longest drive.

The Extra Twenty Yards® is an at-home weight-pulley device that mimics the golf swing to increase club head speed and add long drive distance to your game. Its creator, Graeme Alexander, recommends golfers spend about three to five minutes with the device three to four times a week.

“I lack the motivation to go to a gym for an hour or 90 minutes three times a week so I can hit a golf ball farther,” Alexander said. “So I came up with an exercise machine that is biomechanically specific to the golf swing.

The Extra Twenty Yards® is a patented product specifically designed to aid golfers to hit the golf ball further. The product is a weight machine which can help develop strength in the golf swing. Stronger golf muscles will result in faster movement and golf club speed.

“In a gym, weighted pulleys are vertical. The Extra Twenty Yards® has a handle that replicates the gripped end of a golf club and you pull — in lighter weight increments — on the correct golf swing plane.”

The Extra Twenty Yards® requires a room with at least an eight-foot ceiling. Already sold in Europe, where it has earned support from numerous teaching pros, the Extra 20 Yards was introduced in the United States last month for $350

Vist the The Extra Twenty Yards® website for more information.

However, some shots that we all need practice with are often difficult to simulate on the driving range.

Most golf practice facilities are equipped with flat practice surfaces, but very few offer the chance to practice up hill, down hill and side hill shots. However, one young entrepreuner has created a solution that is attracting a great deal of buzz in the golf business this winter.

University of Iowa student Scott Pralle has created Golf At Any Angle, which is a state of the art practice platform that allows golfers to practice just about any shot faced on the golf course. Golf At Any Angle is a portable practice platform that comes can be adjusted in 5 and 10 degree increments to simulate multiple lies. This new product helps golfers learn how to maintain their spine with the ball below or above their feet as well as up hill or down hill lies.

Brandt Snedeker currently leads the PGA Tour averaging just under 28 putts per round. For those of us without Brandt’s ability with the flat stick, we average closer to 36 putts per round. Whether you’re a PGA Professional or high-handicapper, we all spend a significant time throughout our rounds on the putting greens.

One new training aid could be a big help to improving your experience while on the greens. The new SKLZ Vari-Break Putting Green product allows golfers to practice reading and making putts with a variety of lies including uphill, downhill, left and right breaks. The 33-square foot oversized true-roll putting surface can be manipulated with versatile, moveable foam wedges for all kinds of practice. The putting surface closely simulates real green conditions including with and against-the-grain putting.

“When you play a round of golf, rarely is a putt perfect, flat and straight, so your practice putting routine shouldn’t be either,” said Greg Shoman, vice president of marketing, SKLZ. “Now golfers finally have a practice putting mat that acts like an actual putting green, which will help improve putting on virtually any type of lie.”

In addition to coming with two foam break wedges The Vari-Break Putting Green includes the horseshoe-shaped SKLZ Putt Pocket, which fits in a standard golf hole to reduce its size for higher precision practice as well as practice putting to the high side of the hole. The weighted Putt Pocket can also be moved around the green for more putting scenarios and for fun putting competitions with friends and family. The oversize green measures 11 feet long by 3 feet wide and has a Stimpmeter rating of 10 on a firm rug, and 11 on linoleum surface for down-grain. Against-grain rates a 9 on a firm rug.

The Vari-Break Putting Green retails for $99.99. You can learn more at http://sklz.com.

Looking for a fun, new way to shave strokes off your handicap in 2010? Check out The Putting Game, an entertaining game and powerful golf training aid all in one. It was awarded an International Network of Golf (ING) Industry Honor Award in the Product Ingenuity – Emerging Companies category at last week’s PGA Merchandise Show.

The Putting Game is different from the other golf training aids as it has a “virtual cup” (not a physical cup) and it is “Stimp aware” to provide feedback on putt distance. Practice with The Putting Game and you’ll build putting confidence, sharpen your directional accuracy and improve your distance control. This golf training aid even includes an audio speaker that rewards you with ball-in-cup sound when putt is made or will even heckle you when you miss.
