Score one for the power of Rush Limbaugh’s polarizing impact as the third-season premiere of The Haney Project on January 11 was the best original series episode for Golf Channel since 2009. The first telecast scored a 0.3 household rating, translating into 310,000 viewers on average, according to Nielsen.

The previous record holder for the start of a Golf Channel original show was the original version of The Haney Project, which debuted in March 2009 and featured basketball personality Charles Barkley.

“We’re extremely pleased with the launch of our third season of The Haney Project,” said Tom Stathakes, Golf Channel senior vice president of programming, production and operations, in a statement. “This is a testament to the gains we’ve made to our original programming and that, in addition to great golf competition, Golf Channel is a viable choice for people seeking great entertainment.”

Who’s got the best up and coming swing? We’ll soon find out when the Little Linksters golf program announces the winner of their Best Pee-Wee Golf Swing contest at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, January 27-29.

Since July of 2008, the Little Linksters Golf program has brought the game of golf to a typically non-traditional sect of the golfing population; the “Pee-Wee” Golfer (Ages 3-8). The Little Linksters Golf Program is a great introduction to the game of golf for for all children in this age group. The program is taught in a fun and interactive way using a combination of both traditional golf instruction methods and very non-traditional ways.

Contest entries will be judged by Little Linkster’s founder, PGA Professional Brendon Elliott, who will be assisted by three celebrity golf judges – Annika Sorenstam, Hank Haney and Kelly Sheehan.

Parents were encouraged to participate in this contest by uploading a video of their little linksters on YouTube during the month of December and pasting that video link on the sign up page available on the Little Linksters website.

Prize packages will be awarded in three age categories: 3-4 year olds, 5-6 year olds, and 7-8 year olds. Each prize package is valued at more than $750 and includes items from some of the industry’s best children’s golf apparel, equipment and training aid companies.

The end results to Charles Barkley’s golf swing might not have been successful, but the ratings for the initial “The Haney Project” were. Therefore, we get to see Hank try again, this time with Everybody Loves Raymond star and Emmy Award-winner Ray Romano. Season two of The Haney Project makes its highly anticipated return Monday, March 1 at 9 p.m. ET.

A golf nut and a regular at celebrity golf tournaments across the country, Ray Romano’s goal this season is to break an 18-hole score of 80 with the help of Haney’s expertise. Said Romano “I’m a huge fan of The Haney Project and I’m excited to take on a new challenge. I followed Charles’ progress week in and out during the first season and I realized that Hank Haney was the guy who could finally get me to the next level in my golf game. I’ve tried many ways to improve over the years, and I thought, ‘why not work with the best coach around?’ I told my wife about the project, and while she doesn’t know anything about golf, she does like the idea that after 21 years it’s someone else’s job to try and fix me.”
