Take a sneak peak behind the scenes in this video at 2011 US Open Champion Rory McIlroy’s amazing private golf practice ground in his native Ireland. Rory’s incredible golf wonderland includes a replica of the famous “road hole bunker” from St. Andrews in Scotland.
McIlroy’s grounds crew constantly monitor and adjust the conditions of the grass and bunkers to recreate the conditions Rory will be facing in his next event. His attention to detail in his practice routine certainly doesn’t bode well for his competitors chances in upcoming golf tournaments.
After his shocking triumph at St. Andrews, British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has become golf latest superstar. With that title comes fame and fortune unlike anything he’s ever experienced. However, unlike many players, Oosthuizen’s first major purchase is staying close to his roots.
“I bought the tractor for my farm. Being a farm boy it was one of my big dreams. “I’ll have a kiddie seat on it for my daughter Jana,” the 27-year-old South African told reporters in Sweden on Wednesday, on the eve of the Scandinavian Masters at the Bro Hof Slott course near Stockholm.
Oosthuizen, who won at St Andrews by seven strokes, also enjoyed another concession to his new-found fame and riches. “Flying in this morning by private jet… It’s all starting to sink in,” he said.

It’s time to accept the fact that you probably won’t be playing in the British Open Championship this year at St. Andrews. Yes, it’s disappointing to realize that your dream will have to wait one more year. However, there is some good news for you.
The R&A today has introduced the Virtual Open Championship, which is a high definition online game that includes a photorealistic representation of the Old Course at St Andrews. It’s free to enter and could be your best shot at winning the Open Championship.
Virtal Open qualifying rounds will take place from 1 June on www.opengolf.com, www.wgt.com and www.espnarcade.com, before the leading 156 competitors contest two championship rounds in the week immediately following The Open. One official winner will receive an all expenses paid trip for two to St Andrews.
“The R&A is dedicated to developing the game of golf, and The Open Championship plays a huge part in our efforts,” said Adam Lynch, Head of Digital Media for The R&A. “This partnership with World Golf Tour enables us to reach more fans than ever before and give them a taste of competitive golf at the home of the game. We are delighted to offer this as we approach the 150th Anniversary of The Open Championship.”
In creating the game, more than 100,000 HD images were captured, geo-referenced and placed into a patented physics simulator, allowing game developer World Golf Tour to replicate the course to an accuracy of within one and a half inches.
