First Ryo Ishikawa shoots a 58 to win a tournament on the Japanese Golf Tour in May. Then in July, Paul Goydos becomes only the fourth man in PGA Tour history to shoot a 59 while at the John Deere Classic. Both rounds were historic, but neither could match what 17 year-old Bobby Wyatt accomplished last week at the Country Club of Mobile, Alabama.
Wyatt posted a record 14-under 57 on Wednesday in the second round of the AGA State Boys Junior Championship. Attending the University of Alabama in the fall, Wyatt shot a 26 on the front nine, which included an eagle, seven birdies and a par. He just missed finishing with a birdie on the 18th, settling for a par.
It’s possible Wyatt’s score could set a world record as the lowest score in competitive play on a golf course of more than 6,500 yards, which the Guinness Book of World Records uses as the standard. The course as played by Wyatt measured 6,643 yards.
