PGA Champion Martin Kaymer was recently named European Golf Player of the Year by his peers. It was another tremendous honor for the 26-year-old German who edged U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell.
All of Kaymer’s Ryder Cup teammates attended the presentation at Heathrow’s Sofitel Hotel on Tuesday evening. The audience even included 3-time major champion Padraig Harrington, who cannot play this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth because of a knee injury.
Harrington himself was the inaugural winner of the trophy after winning two majors in 2008 and Lee Westwood’s return to the European number one spot after a nine-year gap made him the second recipient.
Kaymer, who won his first major title at the PGA Championship last August, is looking to regain the #1 world golf ranking. He currently trails Lee Westwood and Luke Donald.
