What’s the biggest shopping season of the year for golfers? According to golf retailer Golfsmith, the time period around Father’s Day is their most popular selling season, surpassing even the holiday season in December. According to Golfsmith, the company sells more than 2 million balls, 4 million tees and tens of thousands golf shirts in the days before Father’s Day.
So what are the hot new choices for last minute Father’s Day golf gift ideas? Technology-focused products are leading the charge in 2012. From golf clubs to golf range finders, technological advancements are capturing the hearts and swings of golfers around the world.
Laser rangefinders that provide pinpoint accuracy along with GPS devices that give golfers a birds’ eye view of the golf course are hot sellers this year. Standouts in this category according to Golfsmith include the Motorola MotoACTV and the Garmin GPS Watch.
The latest technology is also making a big impact on golf clubs that offer adjustability. The TaylorMade RocketBallz Driver, Cobra’s AMP Driver and Callaway’s RAZR Fit Driver are some of the most popular clubs currently that allow golfers to adjust the face angle, loft and lie, altering the golf club to help change the flight of the golf ball. Some new golf clubs like the PING Nome, even offer adjustable length options to help fit every size golfer.
Outside of technology, the big trend in golf is adding vibrant colors. Yellow golf balls are gaining in popularity and are actually twice as easy to see on the golf course compared to traditional white balls. According to Golfsmith, sales of yellow balls have increased 125 percent over the past year.
PGA Tour players such as Rickie Fowler have helped popularize brighter colors from tangerine orange to fluorescent blues to distinctive plaids and bold patterns. In additon to golf clothes, golf footwear has embraced brighter colors along with a more casual style with shoes from Ecco, adidas, Footjoy and Nike becoming more popular.
