Clint Eastwood has been named creative board chairman and founding shareholder of Back9Network, an upcoming golf lifestyle TV network. The two-time Academy Award winner not only plays golf frequently but also owns the Tehama Golf Club in Carmel, California, and is an investor in Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Back9 Network is scheduled to launch in early summer and will be a global lifestyle and entertainment network. The network will provide simultaneous distribution over the Internet and mobile devices utilizing a multi-platform digital system. Back9 Network will be as much a lifestyle network as a sports channel, examining the players and the world in which golf resides.
Among the nine pilot shows for the Back9 Network are an interview magazine series hosted by model and LPGA Tour player Anna Rawson, as well as a daily studio show titled The Scorecard. Other proposed Back9 Network shows are Extreme Golf, which features celebrities and athletes going head-to-head on exotic golf holes; Lucky Me with Jackie Flynn, starring the blue-collar comedian as he travels to the ritziest of courses; and Hole Lotta Love, a Bachelor-style dating series in which pairs play with three dates and eliminate one at each hole.
Clint Eastwood is a long-time friend Back9 Network chief executive James Bosworth, who was an assistant pro at Pebble Beach in the mid-1990’s when the two first met. Eastwood and Bosworth remained in touch, and continue to play golf together as they plan the future of the newest golf channel.
