2010 was the year when golf’s mightiest force came crashing down to earth. No single moment encapsulated Tiger’s frustration more than his errant shot into a photographer’s lens at the Ryder Cup in Wales. Ironically, the photographer’s name was Mark Pain and it’s highly unlikely he will take a more famous shot for the rest of his life.
Woods was partnered with Steve Stricker and attempting to chip his third shot on the final hole of the morning fourball against Europe’s Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher on to the green. To his surprise, Tiger laid the sod over the golf ball and duffed the shot straight at photographer Pain, who captured this extraordinary picture just before the ball hit his camera, bounced on to his chest and came to rest at his feet. Woods was furious about his blunder, but neither he nor caddie Steve Williams objected to Pain’s position.
