Most of us consider it an adventure when we play golf outside of our home course. Author David Wood takes “golf adventure” to a whole new level in his book “Around the World in 80 Rounds: Chasing a Golf Ball from Tierra del Fuego to the Land of the Midnight Sun“, which is the humorous travelogue chronicling his year-long odyssey playing golf in 26 counties and covering more than 60,000 miles.
Recently released in paperback, the book covers Wood’s hilarious journey as trains, planes, ferries, camels and elephants haul him and his beloved golf clubs all over the world. The book has been called “laugh out loud funny” by CBS golf analyst Bobby Clampett and “highly entertaining” by Publisher’s Weekly.
“Along the way, I suffered ghastly food poisoning in India and Egypt; weathered severe altitude sickness when crossing the Andes; encountered bloody civil wars in Bolivia and Nepal; accidently met Argentina’s notorious dictator Carlos Menem; and was arrested by armed guards and deported in Ukraine,” says Wood. “It wasn’t exactly a golf weekend in Myrtle Beach.”
A former comedian with several appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman,” Wood now holds a public relations position with Buffalo Communications – the global golf-lifestyle PR, branding and marketing-communications firm. He mainly works with international resort clients, including Mission Hills China, Celtic Manor (Wales) and Pristine Bay (Roatan, Honduras).
“Around the World in 80 Rounds” is available in hardback, paperback and audio on Amazon.com.
